KOUDEKERKE – Alderman Chris Maas of the municipality of Veere was allowed to reopen the De Couburg association building on Tuesday evening, September 28.

De Couburg is a place where a wide variety of activities take place with a smile and sometimes a tear. In the association building you can go for dance, singing, meeting rooms, parties, games, relaxation, funeral, blood collection, photography, Sinterklaas party, first aid lessons, yoga, disco, and the infant and toddler desk. In the sports hall you can practice various sports such as gymnastics, various martial arts, various ball sports, badminton, aerobics, school gym, hockey, but it is also possible to organize children’s parties. Thus, the community center is an important place for many people.

Activities
Prior to renovation, the foyer was refurbished in-house by the managers in collaboration with the technical department of the municipality. This includes painting, renewing sanitary facilities and installing a new ceiling system with LED lighting. The management plan for the buildings provides for major maintenance on the outer walls of the De Couburg association building. The window frames had to be replaced due to wood rot and the asbestos-containing roofing and cladding must be removed by law before 2024. By cleverly combining these activities with the extra insulation of these facades and roofs, we are taking a step forward in the context of an almost energy-neutral building (NZEB). Contractor Joziasse carried out this work last autumn and winter.

Interior
The interior, including furniture, of the large hall of the De Couburg association building was in need of renewal. The interior has been renewed with a one-off facelift. An interior consultant has made a total plan that has given the presentation of this part of the association building a boost. The realized plan was implemented by various entrepreneurs, including Schilder Noom, Switch Elektro, Pulse, Lavoir and the technical service of the municipality of Veere.

Relief
The lighting of the Couburg sports hall was in urgent need of replacement. The lighting fixtures were out, which resulted in a lot of downtime and unnecessary maintenance. We couldn’t wait for the major renovation of the Couburg, which we want to carry out in a few years’ time, because safety would then be jeopardized with the sport. We have been able to prevent this with this procedure.

Grand opening
The evening was festively opened with singing by the mixed choir Te Quiero, who performed four songs from the a cappella repertoire. The music association Harmonie VoorVoor had also prepared three beautiful songs for this opening. Operator Ron Sabandar provided a delicious pastry, various tasty snacks and of course a drink.
