Cristiano Ronaldo and the Football Leaks, the terrible accusation no longer holds

The complaint of a young American woman accusing Cristiano Ronaldo of having raped her 12 years ago should be dismissed.

In June 2009, the complainant called the Las Vegas police to report a rape, but the young woman refused to identify her attacker. The case had been closed, but Cristiano Ronaldo was finally charged nine years later, in August 2018. Ms Mayorga had reconnected with the Las Vegas police and requested the reopening of his case, accusing publicly and for the first time the star of Manchester United and the Portuguese selection.

This complaint should nevertheless be dismissed due to irregularities according to a judge in charge of examining the civil procedure, a few months after the case had already been abandoned in criminal proceedings. According to Judge Daniel Albregts, the complaint lodged by Kathryn Mayorga, now 37, is mainly based on pirated documents from the “Football Leaks”. However, these documents should never have been in his possession. The judge accuses Kathryn Mayorga’s lawyer of having acted with “Bad faith”.

Judge Daniel Albregts also spoke in full transparency on this highly publicized file of the rape complaint against Cristiano Ronaldo. “Dismissing Mayorga’s case because of the improper behavior of his lawyer is harsh. But it is unfortunately the only appropriate sanction to guarantee the integrity of the judicial process. Even if the complainant changes lawyers, the court will be unable to say how much of the case is based on her recollection alone or whether they were influenced by the Football Leaks documents ” wrote the judge, for whom there is therefore no choice but to drop the charges against the legendary former Real Madrid striker.

The time is therefore for relief in the entourage of Cristiano Ronaldo. His lawyer in Las Vegas, Peter Christiansen, welcomed the news. “The court wants to enforce the law fairly and recommends that the civil suit against Mr Ronaldo be dismissed. I am delighted “ he said while the plaintiff’s lawyers, invited to react by AFP, declined to comment. This may be the end of a judicial and legal fight between the two parties while for his part, Cristiano Ronaldo has always denied en bloc the accusations of rape suffered since 2018.

Ronaldo paid the complainant $ 375,000 in 2010

The Portuguese star ended up paying $ 375,000 in exchange for total confidentiality on the alleged facts and the abandonment of all proceedings.
