While her last WTA title was in 2017, Donna Vekic got the better of Clara Tauson in the final at Courmayeur.
Donna Vekic had been waiting for this for so long. After waiting three years between her first title in Kuala Lumpur in 2014 and second in Nottingham in 2017, the Croatian added a third row to her record four years later at the WTA tournament in Courmayeur. For this, the 97th world took the best in two races on Clara Tauson. A final for which the tension was present for the two players, who each conceded their first two sets of services. Donna Vekic then managed to take the ascendancy to lead five games to two then have first a set point on the service of the Dane then two more on her engagement. But, failing to conclude, the Croatian relaunched her opponent who was able to come back to height and then take him to a decisive game.

It was then that Clara Tauson died out. Conceding the first six points of the tiebreak, the 49th player in the world put herself in an awkward position. Managing to delay the deadline by winning three points in a row, she finally gave in. The winning of her first serve in the second set might suggest that Clara Tauson had revived … but it was absolutely not the case. Indeed, Donna Vekic then chained five consecutive games, saving however two debreak balls in the meantime. The 97th World then managed the end of the match to finish the job at the first opportunity (7-6, 6-2 in 1h48 ‘). After two successes in her first two finals on the WTA Tour this year, Clara Tauson discovers the throes of defeat in the last meeting of a tournament.
