Carranque will house a Specialized Center for Technification Adapted to People with Disabilities

Andalusia will be the first community in Spain to have a Specialized Technification Center Adapted to People with Disabilities (CETDAP), whose facilities will be located in the Sports City of Carranque, in Malaga. The counselor Javier Imbroda has presented the project whose main objective is to attend to the technical specialization of sports with motor, intellectual or sensory disabilities from its inception, at an early age, and during the various stages of its sports improvement until its consolidation as a high-level athlete.

Javier Imbroda recalled that the Ministry has rescued a project “that was in oblivion” since 2013 despite being announced by the previous administration. Now, the Andalusian Government will make it a reality with an investment of casi 5 million euros, because, as the counselor has highlighted, “it is a priority because it is a necessity” for the adapted sport of Andalusia.

The future center, Imbroda explained, will have a building conceived as a sports space for the different areas, characters and objectives of adapted sports, from rehabilitation, therapeutic sports, recreational sports and, especially, competition sports to house the Paralympic sports specialties that can be practiced in a Indoor sports complex such as tennis, table tennis, basketball, volleyball, goalball, boccia, futsal, weightlifting, judo and fencing, as well as other non-Paralympic specialties such as badminton and handball.

Regarding the construction deadlines, the counselor has advanced that the deadline for the start of the works is in March 2022, with an execution of 16 months. The Center, in a second phase, will be completed with a Residence for Athletes with capacity for 40 rooms. The two phases, Sports Hall and Residence, are clearly differentiated in the project, so that the construction of the second does not interfere with the operation of the first, although they ultimately form part of a unitary complex.

The facilities will have a built-in roof of 6,363.8 square meters, of which 3,889.85 meters will be above ground, while the remaining 2,473.95 square meters will be below ground. Within this last reserve of space, 1,698.5 meters will be used as a garage, with an estimate of 41 spaces. The sports part will have 4,665.3 square meters.
