Bottas wins the Formula 1 Turkish Grand Prix

Finnish Valtteri Bottas won this Sunday the Formula 1 Turkish Grand Prix ahead of the Dutch Max Verstappen, which regains the leadership of the World Cup. The Mexican Sergio Pérez completed the podium by finishing third.

With six races remaining in the championship, the Red Bull driver returned to the top of the standings to the detriment of a Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) who paid for his poor starting position. The Briton, penalized for an engine change, started eleventh and finished fifth. Now, Verstappen leads the World Cup with 262.5 points, six more than Hamilton.

The Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), meanwhile, was fourth. His partner, Carlos Sainz. starred in the comeback -and was named driver of the day-, by finish eighth after having started nineteenth, from the bottom of the grid, for having changed his engine.

Fernando Alonso (Alpine), who had started fifth, lost all options after touching in the first corner with the French Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri), sixth this Sunday on the circuit located on the outskirts (in the Asian part) of Istanbul. The Asturian double world champion finished the race outside the points, in sixteenth position.

Englishman Lando Norris (McLaren) was seventh, just ahead of Sainz, who kept sixth place in the World Cup, half a point ahead of his teammate Leclerc. Canadian Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) and Frenchman Esteban Ocon (Alpine) also scored, finishing ninth and tenth, respectively at Istanbul Park.
