Big step towards European Championship for Belgian promises after winning against Denmark

The Belgian national U21 has won 1-0 against Denmark. In Leuven, Jacky Matthijssen’s men achieved a 12 out of 12 and thus took a serious step towards the European Under 21 Championship.

In Leuven, the promising Red Devils went looking for a fourth three-pointer from four games. With Marco Kana, Maarten Vandevoordt, Hugo Siquet and Yari Verschaeren, trainer Jacky Matthijssen had four Jupiler Pro League Belgians start against Denmark. In the end it was Club Brugge youth product Loïs Openda (Vitesse) who managed to score the only goal of the match after a one-two punch with Arthur Theate.

Because of that victory, Belgium has not yet lost in qualifying and remains group leader. Despite having played one game less, Denmark is in second place. Turkey, Scotland and Kazakhstan are the other teams in Belgium’s group. With her victory, the Belgian U21 takes a solid step towards the upcoming European Championships in 2023 in Romania and Georgia.
