Beautiful hits and blistering end: NAC beats VVV after penalties

NAC Breda and VVV-Venlo have concluded the first day of cup football of this week in a fascinating way. Penalties had to be taken in the Rat Verlegh Stadium. After more than 120 minutes and goals from Yannick Leliendal and Thom Haye, NAC turned out to be the best in the penalty shootout.

NAC got off to a good start against a significantly modified VVV-Venlo. Jos Luhukay sent a glorified B-team into the meadow and that was reflected on the field. However, NAC forgot to open the score and got the lid on the nose on the other side of the field. Leliendal decided to give it a try from a distance and outwitted Nick Olij beautifully.

The game image remained the same after Leliendal’s goal, but NAC was unable to pass VVV keeper Delano van Crooij. NAC trainer Edwin de Graaf was forced to send Haye, who was not completely fit, onto the field as a substitute. That decision paid off just before the end of regular time. Haye scored from a distance and provided the second beautiful goal of the evening.

In the thirty minutes of extra time that followed regular time, NAC insisted, but the team from Breda was unable to score the decisive goal. For example, substitutes Ezechiel Banzuzi and Moise Adilehou were still close to 2-1. However, penalty kicks were needed to determine a winner. In this, Olij became the great hero of NAC by stopping two penalty kicks from VVV. Boris van Schuppen scored on behalf of NAC with a delicious Panenka. NAC continues to convert.
