Bayern only pushes Benfica with Jan Vertonghen in the final head-down | UEFA Champions League 2021/2022

Bayern returned to the Estadio da Luz, where it won the Champions League 14 months ago. Coach Julian Nagelsmann was missing with the flu, he did not see how his boys went looking for a quick goal in an entertaining match with chances up and down. The visor of Sané and Lewandowski was not yet properly adjusted.

However, Benfica also had his chances and forced Neuer to save in his 100th CL game. Shortly before half-time, Lewandowski hit the mark, but the goal did not count due to hands.

After the break, Pavard hit the post, thanks to goalkeeper Vlachodimos. It was not easy for Bayern, when a second goal from Müller was rejected by the VAR because Coman was offside before.

Goncalves and Yaremchuk (ex-Ghent) almost gave the home team the lead, but in minute 70 the Portuguese tank was empty.

Sané turned a free kick into goal. In a mad 15 minutes, Bayern scored 3 more times: substitute Everton scored a header, Lewandowski and Sané added to the score. Jan Vertonghen, 90 minutes on the field, could only watch passively.

Bayern are now up to 12 goals ahead and 0 goals against in 3 European matches this season. Their record number of unbeaten away matches in the Champions League now stands at 20.
