BASKETBALL | WOMEN’S EUROCUP | Gernika win in France and put their classification on track

Lointek Gernika got their qualification for the second phase of the Eurocup on track after achieving a valuable victory on the court of French Flammes Carolo (58-69) which places him in second place in his group, with two wins in three days, behind the undefeated leader La Roche Vendée.

It was a very even game, with alternatives on the scoreboard and differences never exceeding five points in the first three quarters that were decided in favor of the Biscayan team in the last ten minutes. The spark that ignited the final arreón of those of Mario López ignited in the last five seconds of the third set. With 51-49 in favor of Flammes, the last local advantage, the Venezuelan Roselis Silva scored two free throws and stole the ball on the French serve, scoring a new basket that made it 51-53.

On the second play of the last quarter, Lisa Berkani tied the game at 53, giving way to a blackout in the galas that lasted for seven minutes and was used by Gernika to decide the match with a 0-12 run.

With 53-65 and less than three minutes to go, the Basque team managed their advantage with solvency to win a victory supported by some prodigious Angie Bjorklund, who spent almost 39 minutes on the court adding 18 points and 5 rebounds, and Melisa Bracaninovic ( 17 and 9).

Next Wednesday, Lointek Gernika will host Virtus Bolonia in Maloste, who started on paper as a favorite and is bottom of the group without victories in his locker. In the first match the Villa Foral team won in Italy by 60-65.

Referees: Gavin Williams (Great Britain), Tamas Földhazi (Hungary) and Arnoud Christian van Bochove (Netherlands). They eliminated the local Milapie and Bouderra by five fouls, both in the last minute of the game.

Incidents: Match of the third day of Group H of the women’s Eurocup played at the Charleville-Mézières Arena.
