Bartomeu discredits the debt and attributes the losses to the pandemic

Former Barça president Josep Maria Bartomeu and his board of directors estimate the impact of Covid-19 on the Barça club’s accounts during the 2020/21 season at 225 million euros. This is stated in a statement in which they question some of the economic criteria used by the due diligence that last week presented the current general manager of the club, Ferran Reverter, who described as “disastrous and improvised” the management of the board previous. “In no case has the club been at risk of liquidation or dissolution,” he said.

According to Bartomeu and his team, to determine the true incidence of the pandemic in the coffers of the club it is necessary to follow the guidelines of Royal Decree 1162/2020, of 22 December, which establishes special conditions for the application of the system for compensating guarantees on sports corporations. And that states that “for the purpose of calculating the amount of guarantees will not be considered negative economic results, in the years affected by the Covid-19, the negative changes in the accounting net equity of professional clubs directly linked to the economic impact of the Covid-19 ». From one season to the next, the Camp Nou’s revenue fell by 187 million; the commercial ones, 57 million; those of media, 16 million; and those obtained by the transfer of players, 70 million. In other words, Barça stopped earning 330 million for these concepts.
