The NFL will host an international tryout camp for 50 athletes from 14 countries in London in October.
The event will be modeled after the annual screening session conducted by the NFL in Indianapolis. The goal is to find international athletes who have the skills and the potential to carve out a place for themselves in a league club roster.
The camp will take place on October 12, at the Tottenham club stadium.
Athletes from Great Britain, Germany, Belgium, New Zealand, France, Nigeria, Austria, Slovakia, Italy, Switzerland, Japan , Finland, Sweden and Hungary will be invited.
These athletes will be evaluated in order to qualify for the NFL International Development Program, which has produced players like Buffalo Bills defensive end Efe Obada, New England Patriots center-back Jakob Johnson, as well as as Washington club’s tight end Sammis Reyes.
Some athletes who stand out during this evaluation day will be invited to train in the United States for a period of three months. The group will be reduced again after this period and a few will be assigned to NFL rosters in preparation for the 2022 season.
The league has held such events in Australia, in 2018, as well as in Germany, in 2019. Another try-out camp will be held in Mexico later in October for athletes who were unable to travel to London due to restrictions related to COVID-19.
