Mayor Joël Bonnet led the site visit for the officials during the inauguration this Saturday, October 23. Tonight, the celebrations continue with the presentation of the Sportsmen’s Trophies
Saturday, October 23, the day was meant to be a milestone to celebrate a complex that imposes itself: the Espace multisports Saint-Pierrois. 6,000 square meters of sports facilities (including the renovated swimming pool and the skatepark bowl) dedicated to indoor sports (basketball, handball, badminton, archery, combat sports, pelota, voluntary gymnastics, etc.) . With this new or completely renovated, functional and energy-efficient equipment, the 2,300 licensees of the 13 Saint-Pierroises sports sections and the pupils of five surrounding school groups are served.
It is the culmination of more than five years of consultation with the users of the premises, then of works which ended at the end of 2019, notably with the demolition of the rooms of the old Cosec and the renovation of the swimming pool.
Collective play
Mayor Joël Bonnet inaugurated the premises by praising “sport as an art of living”, which introduces “to the sense of solidarity and the primacy of collective play”. Moreover, he was accompanied by representatives of funding partners (10.8 million euros were invested): the State, with the prefect Cécile Bigot-Dekeyzer, the Minister Delegate in charge of Memory and Veterans, Geneviève Darrieussecq, MP Fabien Lainé, and the local communities of the Mons Agglomeration, the Landes Department and the New Aquitaine Region.
The inauguration day continues throughout the afternoon of this Saturday with sports activities and skateboard demonstrations. Tonight, at 6 p.m., the Sportsmen’s Trophies from the past two seasons will be awarded to honor deserving athletes, club leaders and volunteers from Saint-Pierre-du-Mont.
