INGLEWOOD, Calif. –Austin Ekeler had three touchdowns, including a three-yard one with 1:31 remaining, and the Los Angeles Chargers defeated the Cleveland Browns 47-42 on Sunday.

Justin Herbert had an 11th game over 300 yards from the air, ending the game with 398 yards, and he tied a career-high with four touchdown passes.

Mike Willians had 165 yards and caught two touchdown passes for the Chargers, who started the campaign with a 4-1 record for the first time since 2014.

During that clash, the two teams traded the lead on eight occasions, including four in the final 15 minutes of play.

Ekeler totaled 119 yards, 66 rushing and 53 receiving. The Chargers have won their last three outings and they lead the West section of the American Association.

Herbert set a record for the most 300-yard passing games for a quarterback in his first two seasons in the NFL.

Browns running back Nick Chubb rushed for 161 yards and Baker Mayfield recovered, completing 23 of his 32 passes, including two for a major, for gains of 306 yards. David Njoku amassed 149 receiving yards.

The Browns (3-2) suffered a second loss after leading by at least ten points in the second half.

After the Chargers closed the lead to 42-41 on a 19-yard touchdown from Ekeler, Tristan Vizcaino missed the convert by one point.

The Browns had to clear after three unsuccessful games, which set the stage for the Californian team’s victorious push.

Herbert, who saw 26 of his 43 passes caught, joined Jared Cook for a 29-yard gain. Four games later, Ekeler crossed the goal line.
