You started the season quite ideally, but just at the weekend came the defeat in Pilsen. Will you learn?
Once we’re praised, then we get hit. It struck us a little that Pilsen was simply better. We return a little lower down the stairs. Now we have matches to fight. Pilsen showed us what matches await us now. We have to prepare for them. We were sometimes surprised by the strength of Pilsen. It is only good for us that we played such a match. It will meet us.
You are most bothered by defenses, aren’t you?
We were probably a little affected that we didn’t have and still don’t have some players available this season. So far, we have been significantly better in the offensive, dominating and losing opponents. Now we came across a team that we had to say to ourselves: Gentlemen, we have to go back to some things that we didn’t pay much attention to. We wanted to beat the team that we wanted to dominate and Pilsen punished us for it. We must learn from mistakes. If we continue like this, we will be punished by other quality opponents.
All the more so because you have entered a block of challenging matches …
Opponents from the Czech league such as Plzeň, Slavia and Jablonec are teams of the quality that awaits us in the European League. When you see Bayern, it’s a little different. Like all top teams in the Champions League. The European League is a competition that is comparable for us. We’ll see if we can handle it. Then we can think of other things.

For example, about advancing to the Champions League, which is your task. What did the duel with Rapid Vienna and Monaco tell you about the team?
Comparing Monaco to Rapid is a huge difference. It was visible even now at the start of the Champions League. Even though some teams got there, they will have a very difficult role. The European League is now exactly a competition tailor-made for us. We can verify the quality we want to lift and move forward. But I think the competition is ideal for us. It won’t be like in the Champions League, where the teams are of course further than us.
Will you also respond to the defeat in Pilsen with corrections in the line-up?
There will definitely be some changes, some maybe just on posts. We will not perform in the same line-up as in Pilsen.

The team is not in optimal well-being now. I wonder what they will come up with. The match with Midtjylland showed us their quality the most. They won 2: 0, were consistent, patient and organized. I expect a similar match. We run into opponents who are terribly strong. The group has a clear favorite, Lyon. Then there are three teams, including the Rangers, who will fight for the second place. What we lose at the beginning will be badly caught up in the end. We will want to play points wherever we can.
