Xàtiva Badminton wins 4 medals in the Senior Spanish Championship

In category D, Santiago Villanueva achieved two bronze medals. In the men’s individual, after falling in the semifinal against Gabriel Villalonga, 21-18 and 21-13. In doubles, Santiago played with the Andalusian Pedro Mateo and also achieved third place. In category C1, José Luis Llopis entered the round of the last 16; while in men’s doubles, Llopis and José Carlos Pérez reached the quarterfinals. Mª José Mompó, meanwhile, was fourth in the A1 women’s doubles, along with Silvia Rueda; and reached the quarters in the mixed doubles B1, along with Gustavo López. Mompó was opting to win both championships in Spain, but an injury in the last National Circuit prevented him from performing at his best in Vitoria.

Bronze in the Junior Master

On the other hand, the CB Xàtiva also took the podium in the test of the National Youth Master’s Circuit for Under-13 and Under-17, held last weekend in Collado Villalba (Madrid). Vicent Molina and David Polop won the bronze medal in the men’s doubles of the U-17 category, after losing in the semifinal against Marc Martín and Iago Martínez by 21-14, 21-17. Hugo Medina and Adrián Ramón couldn’t get past the group stage; just like Adrián and Maria Sanz in the mixed doubles. In individual, Polop fell in the round of 16; and Molina, Medina and Sanz did not reach the final phase. In Sub-13 Martina Molina competed.

Next weekend, Badminton Xàtiva will play the Spanish Championship of Autonomous Selections in School Age, in Huelva. In Sub-15, Andrea Orquín will compete; in Sub-17, Maria Sanz, David Polop and Vicent Molina; and in parabádminton Selenia Pla. They will be accompanied by Javier Alcázar as part of the technical staff designated by the Valencian badminton federation.
