Women’s PSG: the Parisiennes go on and win at Soyaux (2-0)

It’s not easy to develop a game when the ball struggles to make its way through tall grass on bumpy ground. In Charente, in Soyaux, very close to Angoulême, PSG obtained the essentials by winning this Sunday afternoon a third success (2-0) in as many meetings which allows it to share the top of the standings with Lyon and Paris FC.

Marie-Antoinette Katoto was responsible for delivering her partners, badly embarked during the first half hour, taking advantage of a hesitation of the opposing defense. In front of goalkeeper Laëtitia Philippe on a back pass, the Parisian striker hooks and slips the ball into the net (1-0, 34th). It remains to avoid the fears of the previous week against Montpellier (1-0). It’s done thanks to Sandy Baltimore with an unstoppable shot in the box (67th, 2-0).

A hot derby on September 26 against Paris FC

The reigning French champions confirm their good start to the season, also proving that the work of the new staff – Didier Ollé-Nicolle succeeded Olivier Echouafni – is effective. “The girls quickly appropriated the method, the will to play, to have possession and to be masters of their destiny, had launched the new coach before the meeting. Mastery of the game will also be the leitmotif at Soyaux. We will have to use this match to finish this series well, and to continue to progress. The objective is reached even if the playing conditions did not allow to work on speed and fluidity. The players of Didier Ollé-Nicolle will pass a real test on the next day, Sunday September 26, during a tasty derby against Paris FC.

In the meantime, the Parisiennes will know their opponents this Monday for the Champions League, which they will meet again in October (they reached the semi-finals last season), and seven of them (De Almeida, Karchaoui, Geyoro, Khelifi, Baltimore, Diani and Katoto) will join the gathering of the France team. They were called by Corinne Deacon to participate in the next two qualifying matches for the 2023 World Cup, on September 17 in Greece and September 21 in Slovenia.
