Sander Gillé and Joran Vliegen were eliminated in the 2nd round of the US Open men’s doubles, 4th and last Grand Slam tournament of the year, Saturday in New York.
The Belgian pair, seeded N.16, lost 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7/3) in 2 hours and 14 minutes against the duo formed by the British Jonny O’Mara and the Pakistani Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi.
Jonny O’Mara and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi will face N.2 seeded Spaniard Marcel Granollers and Argentinian Horacio Zaballos for a place in the quarterfinals. The latter reached the final of the US Open in 2019 and that of Wimbledon this year.
Sander Gillé and Joran Vliegen reached the quarter-finals of the US Open last year, their best Grand Slam result. This season, they made it to the round of 16 at Roland Garros.
