Unseen scenes in Brazil: match against Argentina definitively halted after officials walk out to quarantine 4 players | Sport

FootballTurmoil during Brazil-Argentina. While the World Cup qualifier was underway, officials from Brazil’s health authorities arrived to quarantine four Argentine players. The match was first halted, but has now also been stopped permanently.

Prior to the match, there was a riot surrounding four Argentine internationals who play for English clubs. Brazilian health authorities have ordered the unnamed foursome to immediately go into isolation. It would be Emiliano Buendia, Emiliano Martinez (both Aston Villa), Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero (both Tottenham Hotspur).

According to Brazil’s corona rules, passengers who have been in Britain in the past fourteen days must first stay in quarantine for two weeks upon arrival in Brazil. According to the Brazilian authorities, the four Argentinians have incorrectly filled in their travel documents. The quartet is ordered by the Brazilian government to go into isolation and to leave the country as soon as possible, without participating in any further activities.

It seemed to end with a fizzle, because the four players ‘just’ traveled with the national team to the stadium, three of them were even in the starting line-up. After a few minutes, however, some officials from the health service came onto the field to remove the said players from the field. The game was stopped, but the referee in the meantime decided to stop the match permanently.
