Tokyo Paralympic Games come to an end

SUCH.

Tokyo ended the 16th edition of the Paralympic Games this Sunday, the point and end of a long journey of eight years, one more than planned, and he did so with a Closing Ceremony that was a sonorous and multicolored party, and with a hopeful look at the future and the Olympic and Paralympic legacy he can leave in the city.

A pandemic crossed in the Olympic and Paralympic dream of the Japanese capital, the first to organize the two appointments in two editions. The coronavirus, and not the economic or political problems, was the great and unexpected obstacle encountered by the organizers and Japanese authorities that, despite everything, they knew how to battle against uncertainty and problems in order to carry out a major challenge in the most complex scenario envisaged.

And after 12 days of high competition, Tokyo closed the fair definitively. And he did betting on a much more lively party, in line with what the Closing Ceremonies tend to be, which with which he inaugurated the event on August 25, much more poetic and symbolic, in which he invited to fly without complexes and in pursuit of diversity.

The Mexican delegation had an outstanding participation in the Japanese capital, surpassing what was done in London 2016 and Rio 2016, with a total of 22 medals (7 gold, 2 silver and 13 bronze), still far from its best harvest, the 42 medals obtained in 1980.

This time, the organizers made clear a message in the concept of their end of party. ‘Moving forward’ was the chosen motto, a message of optimism within a world still convulsed by the virus and ratified with music, color, pyrotechnics and youthful joy, something that perhaps had been missed at the opening, and underpinning the idea that Tokyo is also taking a step towards a more inclusive society.

Finally, Yuriko Koike, governor of Tokyo, proceeded to take over from Paris and its mayor Anne Hidalgo, with the French candidacy putting a portion of this farewell party, with a synchronized choreography in the same stadium and a live connection seasoned with the music of the artist Pone, suffering from ELA and who is capable of producing musical mixes thanks to the movement of your eyes, aided by an eye software. Louis Armstrong’s hopeful ‘Wonderful World’ gave way to quenching the flame and to the ‘sayonara and arigato’ to Tokyo.
