There is a reasonable chance that the Orange will qualify directly for the World Cup

7 september 2021 – The Dutch national team can take an important step towards the 2022 World Cup in Qatar on Tuesday evening. If the match against Turkey is converted into a win, the Orange will lead the qualifying group. According to statistics agency Gracenote, the team of national coach Louis van Gaal has a good chance of becoming a group winner.

The data agency has calculated that the chance that the Orange will qualify directly for the World Cup is 56 percent. That means that the Dutch national team is the favorite for the group win, despite being one point behind Turkey. If the Turks are defeated on Tuesday evening, the chance is of course even greater that the Orange will conquer the first place in Group G.

But even if the Orange misses the group win, there is a good chance that a World Cup ticket will still be won. Gracenote estimates the chance that the Dutch national team will qualify for the final round left or right is 65 percent. The chance that Turkey will qualify for the World Cup in Qatar is only 34 percent, according to Gracenote. Norway’s chances are estimated at 22 percent.

The first meeting with Turkey turned out to be a complete disappointment. In Istanbul they lost no less than 4-2, which meant a false start to the qualifying cycle. If Turkey also loses tonight, then direct qualification for the World Cup will be a difficult story. The difference is then four points with four games to play.
