The Playoffs – Hot or Cold: The NFL Week 2 Fantasy Football Thermometer

The first week has come and gone and we already have repercussions on Fantasy Football, don’t we? Some want to keep the good start and go 2-0, others want to overcome the setback in the first week and avoid 0-2. Regardless of what you’re looking for, one thing is certain: you need to get your lineup right so you don’t let a victory slip through your fingers (as the author of this text did when he was defeated by the boss Ricardo Pilat in the first week)

That’s why the The Playoffs brings the thermometer to give tips on who to put in your lineup and who to keep in the bank in this second week of game.

Before that, those usual clarifications. Superstars like Patrick Mahomes, Christian McCaffrey, Davante Adams and Travis Kelce will not be mentioned as they are pretty obvious choices.

The tips are simple: the hot ones are those that for this round have favorable matchups to score very well. The cold ones are just the opposite, those that tend to make a few stitches for at least this week.

hot quarterbacks

Jalen Hurts (Philadelphia Eagles vs San Francisco 49ers)

Hurts had a great game in the first week, possibly the biggest fantasy surprise. The Eagles QB has already shown that he can score points with his legs, but passing is a big part of his game. Against the 49ers secondary, who again suffers from injury problems, Hurts has another chance to cross the 300-yard mark.

Baker Mayfield (Cleveland Browns vs Houston Texans)

Despite being the quarterback who has thrown the most fourth-period interceptions since 2018 in the NFL, Mayfield is a QB we can trust in some fantasy showdowns. The Texans held Trevor Lawrence well the first week, but the Browns are much more thorough than the Jaguars and Mayfield will have the right weapons to score well against Houston.

Other hot QBs: Aaron Rodgers (GB vs DET), Teddy Bridgewater (DEN @ JAX), Joe Burrow (CIN @ CHI)

cold quarterbacks

Sam Darnold (Carolina Panthers vs New Orleans Saints)

Darnold had a long connection with Robby Anderson last week, but the Saints’ defense is a much bigger issue than the Jets’ defense. Carolina’s new QB will face the defense that just closed Aaron Rodgers, that alone is reason enough to leave him on the bench this week.

Ben Roethlisberger (Pittsburgh Steelers vs Las Vegas Raiders)

I confess that I didn’t expect much from the Raiders’ defense, which has good players, but I didn’t see it as a strong defense. I was mistaken. Forcing two fumbles and having some sacks against any QB is great, doing that against Lamar Jackson is great. I’m not sure the Pittsburgh offensive line will be able to hold off the good Las Vegas pass rush.

Other cold QBs: Josh Allen (BUF @ MIA), Kirk Cousins (MIN @ ARI), Carson Wentz (IND vs LAR)

Running backs quentes

Melvin Gordon (Denver Broncos @ Jacksonville Jaguars)

Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams split carry almost equally, but it was Gordon who made a big play – scoring a 70-yard TD. In this TD veteran RB dos Broncos showed that there is still a lot of gas in his tank – reaching the highest speed of a player with the ball in the first week, being the only one to exceed 21 miles. Gordon will still pay off in fantasy despite Williams’ presence (almost in the same mold as in Cleveland with Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt).

Jonathan Taylor (Indianapolis Colts vs Los Angeles Rams)

The Rams’ defense is excellent and no one will deny that, but against the running game it could be a weak point this year. David Montgomery did really well last Sunday Night. Jonathan Taylor is an excellent RB with a great offensive line (much better than the Bears), and should find ways to score points against the Rams on Sunday.

Other hot RBs: Chris Carson (SEA vs TEN), Damien Harris (NE @ NYJ), Kareem Hunt (CLE vs HOU)

Running backs frios

Mike Davis (Atlanta Falcons @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

A lot of people bet Mike Davis for what he did in the Panthers last year replacing Christian McCaffrey, but his situation in Atlanta is different. Cordarrelle Patterson (wide receiver) has already led the team in charge despite Davis being the starting RB. Couple that with a match against one of the best defenses in the NFL, perhaps this is not the time to bet on improving the production of the new Falcons player.

Josh Jacobs (Las Vegas Raiders @ Pittsburgh Steelers)

Jacobs is the kind of RB you should be climbing every week in fantasy. The problem with him right now is that he’s playing totally on sacrifice. There were two touchdowns against the Ravens, but only 34 yards (40 in total). If it weren’t for the TDs, his score would likely make it difficult for the teams that drafted the Raiders’ RB. Against this defense of the Steelers, he may not have the chance to find the end zone as he did against the Baltimore team.

Other cold RBs: Tevin Coleman (NYJ vs NE), Devin Singletary (BUF @ MIA), Mark Ingram (HOU @ CLE)

Wide receivers quentes

Ja’Marr Chase (Cincinnati Bengals @ Chicago Bears)

A lot of people were fooled by Chase’s “bad” preseason and let the Bengals’ first-round pick drop several rounds in the season’s closest drafts. Well, Chase showed his full potential against the Vikings, being one of the best WRs of the round. This week he can repeat his performance against the Bears, who no longer have the same secondary as last year.

Mike Williams (Los Angeles Chargers vs Dallas Cowboys)

The Cowboys team is good and can beat the Chargers, but Dallas’ defense remains a problem. Secondary is not to be trusted and now Demarcus Lawrence broke his foot in practice and is out indefinitely. With the defense’s eyes on Keenan Allen, Mike Williams should have plenty of chances in this game.

Other hot WRs: Diontae Johnson (PIT vs LV), Cooper Kupp (LAR vs IND), Tim Patrick (DEN @ JAX)

Wide receivers frios

D.J. Chark (Jacksonville Jaguars vs Denver Broncos)

Despite the Jaguars’ poor game against the Texans in the first week, Chark managed to produce well for the fantasy in his first match with Trevor Lawrence. However, the Broncos’ defense is superior to that of the Houston team, and even with Ronald Darby out of the game, Denver still has Kyle Fuller, Bryce Callahan and first round pick Patrick Surtain II, who has already been confirmed as a starter in the place. of Darby by Vic Fangio. I would ignore Jacksonville targets this week.

Brandon Aiyuk (San Francisco 49ers @ Philadelphia Eagles)

Aiyuk’s situation doesn’t look too good in San Francisco Bay. He was put on the bench in the last match and saw fewer targets than Trent Sherfield. Also, there are rumors that Aiyuk is still learning to be a pro. To make matters worse Kyle Shanahan said he “has to be a lot better than the player behind him”. The trajectory of the 2020 first-round choice seems to be heading in the wrong direction.

Other cold WRs: Quintez Cephus (DET @ GB), Danny Amendola (HOU @ CLE), Marvin Jones (JAX vs DEN)

Tight hot ends

Rob Gronkowski (Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Atlanta Falcons)

Gronkowski last year wasn’t exactly bad, but he wasn’t a fantasy player. The first game of 2021 showed the Gronk we know from New England times. Those who bet on Gronk in high draft rounds seem to have gotten a steal. If the Buccaneers’ tight end continues to repeat what he did at the start of the season, he will soon be on the list of obvious picks.

Robert Tonyan (Green Bay Packers vs Detroit Lions)

Tonyan scored zero points in the first week and most likely scared a lot of players. However, the Packers have the perfect game to recover from their loss to the Saints. The Lions defense should help Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense get back into 2020 shape, averting yet another fury of the crack Mia.

Other hot TEs: Noah Fant (DEN @ JAX), Dalton Schultz (DAL @ LAC), Juwan Johnson (NO @ CAR)

Tight ends frios

Mike Gesicki (Miami Dolphins vs Buffalo Bills)

Like Tonyan, Gesicki freaked out whoever drafted the Dolphins’ tight end with his first week production. Unfortunately for Gesicki, he doesn’t have an easy matchup against the Bills linebackers and safeties this week. I foresee a lot of people wanting to get rid of Gesicki after the second week of Fantasy. (Right, Cauan Soares Silva?)

Anthony Firkser (Tennessee Titans @ Seattle Seahawks)

Unlike what he did in the past, replacing Jonny Smith when he was unavailable due to an injury, Firkser was more of a TE blocker than a receiver in the first week, and that may be his new role in the Titans’ new attack, which doesn’t count. more with Arthur Smith calling the plays.

Other cold TEs: Zach Ertz (PHI vs SF), Dallas Goedert (PHI vs SF), Gerald Everret (SEA vs TEN)

hot defenses

Denver Broncos (@ Jacksonville Jaguars)

Betting on the defense that will play against the Jaguars is perhaps one of the most certain actions every week this season. The team is way below the rest of the league and Urban Meyer doesn’t seem to have a positive impact on the team yet. Couple that with the good defense the Broncos have, we can have a lot of fantasy points here.

Other hot defenses: New England Patriots (@ New York Jets), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (vs Atlanta Falcons), Green Bay Packers (vs Detroit Lions)

cold defenses

Baltimore Ravens (vs Kansas City Chiefs)

Facing the Chiefs is never a good sign for a fantasy defense. To make matters worse, the Ravens will be under pressure after the loss to the Raiders on Monday Night. Recipe for disaster is ready.

Other cold defenses: Los Angeles Chargers (vs Dallas Cowboys), Miami Dolphins (vs Buffalo Bills), Seattle Seahawks (vs Tennessee Titans)

hot kickers

Younghoe Koo (Atlanta Falcons @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

The Falcons will have trouble getting into the end zone for this match, but they should put their team in field goal position on some drives, giving Koo plenty of chances to score well on his fantasy team.

Other hot kickers: Brandon McManus (DEN @ JAX), Rodrigo Blankenship (IND vs LAR), Cairo Santos (CHI vs CIN)

cold kickers

Joey Slye (Houston Texans @ Cleveland Browns)

Slye was the best points kicker in the first week, but the Texans had a much better chance in the last game than they should have in this one. Other than that, the new Texans kicker made his kicks in a closed stadium in the first week and will now play away from home in an open stadium with the influence of the wind. Slye could be a risky bet this week.

Other cold kickers: Matt Ammendola (NYJ vs NE), Austin Seibert (DET @ GB), Greg Zuerlein (DAL @ LAC)
