The Lions of baseball return from the hand of the Misla brothers

The Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League (LBPRC) announced that its Board of Directors unanimously approved the request of the entity Ponce Sports and Entertainment Corp to operate the Ponce Lions franchise from the 2022-2023 season, directing the return of professional baseball to the Señorial City.

The Ponce Sports and Entertainment Corp is a entity incorporated by the brothers Oscar and Gerardo Misla, who are already proxies of the Ponce Lions in the National Superior Basketball (BSN).

According to a press release issued by the LBPRC, the objective of reactivating the Lions, who last played in the 2013-14 season, was one of the main goals of the league president, Juan Flores Galarza.

“With the approval and return of the Leones de Ponce franchise, we fulfilled one of the most important strategic goals established when I assumed the presidency of the LBPRC,” Flores Galarza said in the letter. “The return of the Lions is not only important for us, for Ponce and the southern area, but for all of Puerto Rico, especially for the fans of winter baseball. That is why we approved the franchise one year in advance for which it was requested ”.

The press release establishes that the approval is subject to the Paquito Montaner stadium meeting the necessary conditions to be able to play baseball, which it establishes Major League Baseball through the ‘Winter League Agreement’. Flores Galarza said that they will immediately begin working with the Mislas and with the mayor of Ponce, Luis M. Irizarry Pabón, to outline a work plan.
