The Latvian football team is undefeated in Montenegro

Latvia has played a draw twice in this cycle with the top teams.

Montenegro did not fulfill its task because it did not approach the first three of the group, while the victory for Latvia will complicate the fight for the fourth place in the group.

In subgroup G, the Netherlands and Norway have 13 points after six games, Turkey has 11 points, Montenegro has eight points and Latvia has five points, but Gibraltar is still in the beige.

The Montenegrin started the match with active attacks, but there was no excellent opportunity to send the ball into the goal. The first opportunity for Latvia was in the 15th minute, when after a long pass Roberts Uldriķis forwarded the ball to Vladislav Gutkovsky, who failed to pass it over the Montenegrin goalkeeper. In the response attack, the ball reached the goal of the Latvian national team, but due to the back, the result remained unchanged.

Also in the second half of the half, the ball was mostly played by opponents, while the Latvians tried to respond with counter-attacks. After 40 minutes, Uldriķis sent the corner kick right to Roberta Savaļnieks who headed it sharply past the keeper.

Urošs Džurdževičs fell slightly in the penalty area, but the referee did not take an 11-meter penalty, and the Montenegrin footballer received a warning about the referee’s comments. Džurdževičs was a disappointment, however. Roberts Ozols’s resulting free kick was easily saved by the keeper.

In the first half, both Latvian strikers Gutkovskis and Uldriķis also saw yellow cards in front of them.

The home team also had a bigger advantage in the second half, and in the second ten minutes after Seadas Hakšabanovičs hit the rebound in the rebound, Ozols skillfully repelled the ball. In the 65th minute of the game, the Latvian national team took care of a beautiful attack, the culmination of which was a ball kick in the goal, but due to the rear situation, this shot was not included either.

12 minutes into the game, Raimonds Krollis was a hair’s breadth away from giving Uldriķim the lead with a shot from over on the left. A prompt block by Raimonds Krollis saved the home team that time. Two and a half minutes before the end of the regular time, after a corner kick, the ball was hit by Žarko Tomaševičs over the goalkeeper of the Latvian national team.

With 50 seconds left in the match, Andrejs Cigaņiks from the right position hit the ball past the goal post. True, Latvia earned a corner kick, but this standard situation was wasted.

It has already been reported that Latvian footballers won Gibraltar at home 3: 1 on Wednesday and conceded to Norway 0: 2 on Saturday. In the second match, the Latvian national goalkeeper Pavel Steinbor was injured and replaced by Ozols. Steinbor was not ready to return to the pitch on Tuesday, so Ozols also guarded the goal in a duel against Montenegro.

The opponent could not be helped due to the striker Stevans Jovetičs, but the disqualification prevented the defender Stefan Savič from playing, so Montenegro was left without its leading footballers.

Montenegro first played a draw with Turkey 2: 2, then capitulated with the Netherlands 0: 4.

Montenegro won 2: 1 in the game at Skonto Stadium on March 24. The two teams have also met in two test matches – in 2012, Montenegro won by 2: 0, but last October, the opponents only pulled a draw 1: 1 at the end of regular time.

Latvia ranks 136th in the FIFA rankings, and Montenegro ranks 67th.

In the European area, the samples are divided into ten subgroups, five for five samples and five for six samples. Ten group winners will qualify for the World Cup final, but ten runners-up and two top UEFA Nations League teams will compete in the “play-off” round, which will be outside the top two in the sub-groups.

In the elimination tournament, 12 teams will be divided into three “play-off” branches, where in March 2022 three more participants of the final tournament will be determined.

The final of the World Cup will take place in Qatar, and due to the hot weather, the tournament will be played in the winter from November 21 to December 18.

In 2022, Qatar will host the last World Cup final with 32 teams. The 2026 tournament, hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States, will feature 48 national teams.
