The king asked the executive committee to express a vote of confidence after reports appeared in the media regarding his alleged cooperation with the State Security and the Military Counterintelligence, respectively.

The king commented on the case in detail at Monday’s press conference, on Wednesday he prematurely convened a meeting of the executive committee, which was originally scheduled to meet in mid-October.

The King’s eventual end at the head of the union required the votes of two-thirds of the ten members of the executive committee present, but the King himself announced that even if there were half the members for his dismissal, he would resign himself.

In any case, the Executive Committee has made it clear: it has held the King in office since 2008. Nine out of ten members voted for his stay. The remaining member was against.

Jana Obermajerová, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of BPA sport marketing, also attended Wednesday’s meeting of the Executive Committee as a guest. She informed the members of the executive committee that Tipsport expresses full confidence in the decision of the executive committee on this matter and that BPA sport marketing has no response to the case from the partners to date (for more see this Tipsport press release).

“Tomáš Král emphasized that this is by no means a reaction to what was published. It’s his personal decision. “

But the turning point is coming …

In the end, the king decided to leave the position of President of Czech Hockey voluntarily for personal reasons. He will hold the mandate until June 2022, when the evaluation conference will take place.

“First of all, Tomáš Král thanked the members of the Executive Committee for their trust. He is convinced that everyone made decisions without external influences, only on the basis of their personal opinion, “explained union spokesman Zdeněk Zikmund at a press briefing.” At the same time, he emphasized that even the opposite decision would not change anything “

The king continues. But next year will end

“In conclusion, Tomáš Král informed the members of the executive committee that, by his own decision, he would end up – despite the expressed support – in office at the Czech Hockey evaluation conference, which is being prepared for June next year,” Zikmund announced.

Why does the King give up his position? “I will not go into details, so we agreed. However, Tomáš Král emphasized that this is by no means a reaction to what was published. It’s his personal decision, “Zikmund explained.

“Tomáš Král also announced his three priorities, which he will address in the remaining period.”

“He also stated his three priorities, which he will address in the remaining period,” Zikmund continued. “The first is to hand over the management of the extra league to the Association of Professional Ice Hockey Clubs, which will host Prague and Ostrava in 2024. “

The King has been at the head of Czech Hockey since 2008, ending in June 2022, ie two years before the original expiration of his mandate.

So what will happen to the position of President of Czech Hockey after this date?

There are two variants in the game. Either in June 2022, the statute of the conference will change from evaluation to election and Czech hockey delegates will elect a new president, or until 2024, Czech hockey will be temporarily managed by one of the elected vice presidents. But this will be discussed in the coming weeks and months.
