The “Tulip General” Louis van Gaal is back in office with the Netherlands. But on his debut there was no win for “Oranje”. Because Norway’s Erling Haaland had something against it.
The Netherlands suffered a bit of a damper in qualifying for the World Cup. In Norway there was only a 1: 1 for “Oranje” in the comeback of bond coach Louis van Gaal. The Dutch even lagged behind at times.
That’s how the game went
In Oslo, both teams started very aggressively, it was fast going back and forth in the “Ullevaal Stadion”. There were some chances but no goals yet. BVB striker Erling Haaland had the best in the 16th minute after a strong pass from Frankfurt’s Jens Petter Hauge. But Haaland failed because of “Oranje” goalkeeper Justin Bijlow.
Salvation for the Norwegians came four minutes later when Haaland took a high ball from the half-field, brought it under control and maneuvered it into the goal. The 21-year-old had some help from Virgil van Dijk, who shot the ball in his foot. From there, the game device jumped towards the goal and wriggled in the net.

As a result, the Netherlands increased the pressure – and came to an equalization. The former Bremer Davy Klaassen exploited a cross from Georginio Wijnaldum to 1: 1 (36th minute). In the second half, the selection of Bondscoach van Gaal was stronger, but could rarely convert possession into scoring opportunities. Norway, however, lurked on the counterattack and almost equalized. Again it was Haaland who appeared dangerously in front of the box, but his shot in the 64th minute landed on the inside post.
So it stayed at 1-1 in Oslo. so both teams have seven points in their account after four games. Turkey is first in the group with eight points. The Netherlands face Montenegro on Saturday, Norway face Latvia.
