Surf | Catalina Zariquiey: “Seeing Peruvians at the Tokyo Olympics has been inspiring” | Tokyo 2020 | NCZD | FULL-SPORTS

Catalina Zariquiey (12 years old) is our potential surfer who does not stop training in her native Máncora, Piura. She knows that she has a very competitive path to reach the elite of the sport of the table, but her goals are clear with the support of her family and her sponsors.

As well as participating in national and international championships, she dreams of being soon in the Pan American Surfing, and in the Olympic Games. The Tokyo 2020 experience has marked her and motivated her to reach the top, but she has to continue preparing and not neglect details in her training sessions.

“This year we have not had many championships so far, only in April that I was invited to be part of the pre-selective for the ISA World Cup in El Salvador. That was a very nice experience. Be there and have heats with the big girls. I was happy with my performance. This event was held in Punta Rocas which has heavy waves that I had not run before. It was so much fun being there with the big girls and watching them compete.“Said Catalina.

Our potential surfer also tells us that “I was training in Lima with my coach Gabriel Aramburú and my physical trainer Layne Díaz to prepare well. At the end of May I went with my family to Costa Rica to train for a month. I only did free surfing without coaching. We were in Playa Negra in Guanacaste, which is a very quiet place with very good waves. Also Playa Grande and Avellanas. I have ridden different waves, like the right of Playa Negra that has the wave is bigger than I normally run. It is important for a surfer’s growth to travel to other countries to see other beaches and new waves ”.

“I recently returned to Lima and I was training at Surflab where I train on a skate ramp and a lot of physicality. My plans for the rest of the year is to go to Brazil at the end of September to train and compete there in some local championships. I hope that when I return in November, they have started with the dates of the national circuit to continue competing “, he indicated.

“Watching the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games has been wonderful, exciting and inspiring because I got to watch all the sports. And more importantly, see Peruvian sports, my compatriots, parade at the inauguration, compete leaving everything on the court and even more so the surfers who arrived at the final stages.”,“ Cata ”pointed out.

“I was very proud of our athletes and I think it is excellent that they have included the sport of surfing in the Olympic Games. I know that surfing will also be in Paris 2024 and my goal is to reach an Olympic Games like Los Angeles 2028. In the meantime, I will continue training and competing as much as possible. I want to thank my mom and dad very much for always supporting me. To my coaches and the brands that are supporting me, Sisstrevolution, Surflab Project, Isdin, Santa Natura, bubblegum surfwax and the support of my Federation and the Peruvian Institute of Sport “, ended our little giant of surfing.
