Summer Express Story – Levante-EMV

Something has certainly been said about the No Fira, but what we have had abundant, very abundant information has been about the figures related to people infected, hospitalized and vaccinated against the coronavirus. An exhaustive, detailed, almost daily information whose usefulness, in the end, is relative since it can produce the opposite effect to which it should be intended, since it dulls interest and saturates the staff.

Summer is also in Xàtiva an appointment of sports competitions of all kinds: football, badminton, volleyball, cycling, swimming, tennis … Many and varied sports as an indication that, contrary to what one might think when knowing the obesity index in this country, we are a city of enthusiastic athletes, at least in summer. By the same rule of three, we must be an enlightened population, in view of the superabundant cultural offer, both public and private, that takes place these months.

Another summer news classic is subsidies. On the one hand, those from which the City Council of Xàtiva benefits for the most diverse causes: from fixing the sound of the Gran Teatre or repairing the Mercat or certain works of art, to aid to the suffering business community or the hiring of countless people who need it and will serve the community. All are communicated and celebrated on time.

There is also talk, how could it be less, of the own aid that the council distributes to associations of disabled people, to youth, to women’s associations, to sports, in short, a non-stop … Which is also related to that it leaves its mark on the public conscience and that the corresponding return be found in due course.

There have also been days of obligatory commemoration. Like Youth Day, which those affected did not forget, because of the account it brings them. World Dog Day passed without pain or glory, although Cat’s Day did not, which has an important community of fans in the city in view of the hot activity they star in, including complaints to the court. When talking about four-legged animals, we must not forget the minute of glory starring the wild boars, who also decided to spend the summer at Bixquert.

It has not been a summer without events, a couple of them related to vehicles that charged against the San Joan fountain, today already repaired with more or less success, and against a poor banana tree in front of the station, who has not lived to tell about it. It should be noted a fire, fortunately with few consequences, and a recent suicide that supports the need to face this issue with courage and coherence.

This was raised in a motion by Xàtiva Unida, which along with Compromís is one of the few political formations that has starred in any headline during the summer.

Finally, it should be mentioned that the door of the town hall has not stopped hosting various citizen demonstrations during these months. Decent people protesting the murder of Isaac, an autistic young man or Samuel’s, as a punishment for his LGTB condition. People committed against sexist violence, fervent supporters of women’s rights, as demonstrated in the rally to support Afghan women.

It is a story, by no means exhaustive, of a summer that the best thing about it is that we can tell it, with more or less joy, as we prepare to face a harsh and unceremonious autumn.
