Striking: Delferière and Veljkovic had contact 262 times…

The documentary ‘Le milieu du terrain’ on RTBf about Operation Clean Hands shows that referee Sébastien Delferière and players’ agent Dejan Veljkovic have had contact with each other no less than 262 times in less than a year. It was previously known that the players’ agent sponsored the referee, gave gifts and even arranged a discount on the purchase of a new car.

Veljkovic would also have called Delferière to the investigators “a good friend of Mazzu”. After all, the referee is said to have orchestrated a meeting between the then Charleroi coach and the players’ agent, in the hope that Veljkovic could lead Mazzu to a bigger club. After that, he would have let Veljkovic understand that he also wanted to earn something from it. A few months later, to everyone’s surprise, he missed two blatant penalty kicks against Mazzu’s team.

Due to the good relationship between the two, Veljkovic would have been urged at some point by ex-Anderlecht manager Herman Van Holsbeeck to ask Delferière to “protect Anderlecht” in a crucial match for the title against Club Brugge in 2017. Van Holsbeeck denies that story vehemently.
