Speaking of a statement: West Brom lays a fan for life

West Bromwich Albion has imposed a life ban on a man convicted of racially insulting player Romaine Sawyers on social media. The Championship club announced this on Thursday.

The “supporter” in question, a 50-year-old man, posted a grossly insulting message on social media after the Premier League game against Manchester City earlier this year. On January 26, the man was therefore suspended after the incident. Moreover, it is not just a suspension, but a lifelong stadium ban.

“The club is pleased with the verdict,” a West Brom spokesman said. “West Bromwich Albion has a proud history of fighting all forms of discrimination and our message to supporters is clear. Racism is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated by the club. We will continue to work with the police to ensure that all cases of racism are reported and lead to a lifelong stadium ban.”
