Arne Slot has confirmed the captain of Feyenoord this season. Jens Toornstra will wear the band, Justin Bijlow is second captain and Marcos Senesi plays with the band around his arm when Toornstra and Bijlow are not there.
In an extensive interview with the club channel, trainer Slot makes it clear that Toornstra is taking over the band from the departed Leroy Fer. “As you have seen, Jens has been captain in recent weeks. When he was substituted against FC Utrecht, he gave the band to Justin. Justin is the second captain, Senesi will be the third captain.”
Slot then explains how he came to the decision to appoint Toornstra as captain. “You mainly look at the hierarchy in the group. Whether it is good for a player, for his development and how he fits in the group. Jens is by nature a fairly logical choice, he was the one after Leroy (Fer, ed.) second captain. And Justin is of course making incredible steps, even if you look at the recent international match,” Slot concludes.
