Sjors Sporty and Sjors Creative makes sport possible

ALMELO – Primary school students in the municipality of Almelo receive the new Sjors books from Sjors Sportief and Sjors Creatief. This will also enable them to discover more than forty – often free – sports and cultural activities this school year.

It is the second year in a row that the municipality of Almelo offers the sports and culture promotion project.
“From badminton and gymnastics to painting and tinkering: thanks to Sjors Sportief and Sjors Creatief, primary school students in Almelo can once again discover without obligation which sport or creative activity suits them best,” said a spokesperson.

Sjors Sportief and Sjors Creatief are an initiative of the municipality of Almelo in collaboration with regional sports associations, cultural organizations and other activity providers.

Petra Bruggeman, Neighborhood Sports Coach at Sportbedrijf Almelo, believes it is important that as many children as possible are introduced to sports and culture. Petra: ”Sjors makes it possible for all primary school students to discover the versatile range of sports and cultural activities in our municipality. Without them having to become a member right away.”

The Sjors formula has already proven itself in more than 130 municipalities in the Netherlands, according to Petra. ”A user-friendly digital registration system ensures that children can easily register for trial lessons at a sports club or cultural institution. At the same time, it offers the providers of sports and culture an excellent opportunity to attract new, young members.”

A coloring contest was held in the summer. In addition to a prize, the winner also received the honor of getting the drawing on the front of the booklets. Sofie de Valk, student of primary school de Stapvoorde, has won.

Sofie: ”I did participate in the drawing competition, but I didn’t expect to win at all.” Sofie was surprised by alderman Arjen Maathuis. She was handed the first booklet with her drawing on the cover.

You can register for the activities from September 28 via www.actiefalmelo.nl
