The 42nd edition of the Municipal Sports Games will start on October 23 with the news that this year it is possible to register online through the website of the City of Madrid to compete in disciplines such as judo, rhythmic gymnastics or rugby.
Thus, the Municipal Games return a last appointment marked by the pandemic in which the Madrid City Council made a huge effort to carry out the competition in compliance with all the security measures required by health regulations.
The registration deadlines have started this Monday, and are divided into two phases. A first stage that runs from September 20 to 30 and is aimed at senior category teams and another phase that will run from October 4 to 14, reserved for the categories of sport base (junior, youngest, juvenile, infant, cadet and juvenile).
The starting dates of the competitions will be October 23 for seniors and November 13 for the rest of the categories participating in the competition.
There will be competition in 29 sports disciplines in the 21 districts of Madrid, 12 in sports team (basketball, handball, baseball, soccer, futsal, 7-a-side football, hockey, kayak-polo, rugby, volleyball, beach volleyball and water polo) and 17 in individual modalities (chess, athletics, badminton, cross country, fencing , artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, judo, karate, wrestling, swimming, artistic swimming, canoeing, rowing, rescue and first aid, tennis and table tennis).
The councilor delegate for Sport, Sofia Miranda, stressed that this new season begins “with the challenge of reaching normality that allows the evolution of the pandemic and with a new computer application that will modernize and improve municipal competitions.”
The Delegated Sports Area is in charge of organizing the Games in collaboration with the 21 districts of Madrid, which, according to Miranda explained, “is one of the biggest organizational challenges of the city, which contributes, in the year to that we are the Capital of Sports, to strengthen the organizational capacities and love for sports of the people of Madrid “.
