Regionalliga West: brutal riot in fourth division game – football

They just never learn, they obviously just want riot …

Brutal hunting scenes on Tuesday evening after the duel in the regional league between Preußen Münster and rival RW Essen.

7500 spectators (more were not allowed due to Corona), including 800 from Essen, provided a magnificent backdrop. The lot was previously sold out in just three hours.

But then, with the final whistle, the situation suddenly escalated. Some Ultras from Rot-Weiss – many of them have a stadium ban at home on Hafenstrasse themselves – broke through barriers and fences and could no longer be pushed back by the stewards. They came to a neighboring standing stand with Prussian supporters and beat them through half the stadium.

Problem: A large number of the copious police officers had already gone to the bus parking lot at this point in order to monitor the regular return transport of the RWE trailers.

Balance of the riots, which later also shifted to the street in front of the stadium: Over 30 injured, 19 temporary arrests and numerous criminal charges for bodily harm.

In terms of sport, however, the people of Essen also showed taker qualities. After a 0-2 break they gave the Prussians the knockout with a late winning goal to 3-2, displacing Münster from the top of the table …
