In ampfootball, as it is called with an English term, field players have an amputation on their leg from at least the ankle, the keepers have an amputation on their arm from at least the wrist.
The players play football with crutches and without a prosthesis. The game is played 7 against 7 on a smaller field (60mx40m) with smaller goals.
Belgium encountered considerable opposition in its group matches: against Ireland (8-0), Russia (7-0) and Germany (5-0) were firmly lost. As a result, Belgium had to play for places 9 to 14 in the knockout phase.
After the 8-0 against Georgia, Israel had to play 2 more times against Israel for 13th or 14th place. It became 14th place. But Saturday’s 0-0 against Israel was celebrated as a European title. Yesterday the Belgians could not repeat that, although the difference (0-1) was minimal.
Turkey beat Spain 6-0 in the final, Poland beat Russia for the bronze 1-0. The Turks also won the first European Championship in 2017.
