Paralympic Games: money in canoeing, two medals guaranteed in badminton … what to remember from the day in Tokyo

Penultimate day of competition in Tokyo and only one small medal for France this Saturday. The blue delegation thanked Nélia Barbosa, in canoe money, for having saved her first virgin day in charms of these Games. We summarize everything you need to remember from this Saturday, September 4.

Nélia Barbosa in silver at the canoe!

First games, first medal for Nélia Barbosa in para canoe (Kayak 200 m Women KL3)! The 22-year-old Frenchwoman won a nice silver medal by finishing her race in 51.558 seconds, 1.976 seconds behind the British Laura Sugar and 2.286 seconds behind the German Felicia Laberer.

“I started strong. I was under pressure but tried not to focus on my opponents, she said after the race. I had my plan in my head, a plan that we had been working on for three years. I raised strong at the end. I couldn’t do more, I had no more arms. I am very, very happy. Today I was so accompanied, so prepared, so supported, that I approached things more calmly. This pressure I had for the Paralympic Games turned into strength. “

Frustration for the Morin-Noël pair in badminton

They will have been too short. Beaten this Saturday morning in the semi-final of the doubles para-badminton (SL3-SU5) by the Indonesians Leani Ratri Oktila and Khalimatus Sadiyah, crowned Paralymic champions in the wake, the two French Lenaïg Morin and Faustine Noël also bowed during the the small final against the Japanese Noriko Ito and Ayako Suzuki. Two dry defeats two sets to zero (21-9, 21-15 then 21-16, 21-18). They therefore fail at the foot of the podium for their very first participation in the Games.

Unhappy finals …

Several French men and women were involved in the final of their discipline this Saturday. Note the frustrating arrivals at the foot of the podium for Nantenin Keita in the 400m Women T13 and for Redouane Hennouni-Bouzidi, 4th in the 1,500m T38. Also at the start of the 1,500m, Louis Radius finished 7th.

In para canoeing, Eddie Poitevin finished 6th in the VL3 men’s 200m with a time of 53′055. In the F34 shot put, it is an 8th place for Thierry Cibone, author of a throw at 10m34. Finally, in para sport shooting, Tanguy de La Forest finished 5th in the final of the R9 50m mixed prone rifle SH2.

… but medals guaranteed in badminton

Frustrating failures that the French badists will try to forget. After the sadness of the small-final lost this Saturday, Faustine Noël will have to get back in the saddle for the final of the mixed doubles SL3-SU3, which she will play alongside Lucas Mazur. The French pair won their half against the Japanese Daisuke Fujihara and Akiko Sugino. She will meet one of the two Indonesians who deprived her of the final this Saturday: Leani Ratri Oktila, associated with Hary Susanto. It will be at 5:15 am French time.

At 2:45 am, Lucas Mazur will also have his little rendezvous with history: the final of the single man SL4, against the Indian Suhas Yathiraj. Two more medals in the bag of the France team!
