In order to further boost this activity, which is still enjoying a certain appeal, the Baie-Comeau Regional Pickleball Association will hold an open house next weekend.
This day will be held this Saturday, September 25 from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the gymnasium of Serge-Bouchard high school, headquarters of the association. Young and old alike are invited, just bring your running shoes to discover this sport. The presentation of the vaccination passport is compulsory.
For now, pickleball enthusiasts can indulge in their sport on Mondays and Saturdays at Serge-Bouchard high school and on Thursdays at the Polyvalente des Baies. And if the open house is so popular that it increases the club’s membership, “we will look at the possibility of extending the Saturday session,” argued the president of the organization, Yves Cyr.

In addition, Mr. Cyr is also active on the issue of future outdoor grounds. The City has a project in the pipeline for around $ 200,000, for which it received $ 93,000 from Hydro-Québec. The president of the pickleball club is also trying to get other grants on his side.
Two sites are currently under study. If he does not mention the other site for the sake of confidentiality, Yves Cyr does not hesitate to affirm that the site favored by the regional association is located near the tennis courts behind the Henri-Desjardins center, on the one of the baseball fields that have not been used for several years.
“We would like it to be there, on lot B. It would be less expensive than the other place, where there would be deforestation to be done,” he believes. Three fields are planned on the future pickleball site.
On the performance side, Yves Cyr did not fail to point out that two members of the local association, Céline Riopel and France Poirier, won nothing less than the gold medal at level 3.0 at the BP Sport pickleball tournament in Laval, which took place on September 11 and 12 and which brought together a few hundred players.
