Novak Djokovic is the most fascinating player to talk to

Novak Djokovic aims to become the second player of the open era to achieve the Grand Slam (the four major tournaments won in a single year). The only one who has achieved this so far is Rod Laver, who did it in 1969, when most of those who follow tennis today weren’t even born yet.

The world number 1 and Serbian champion won the first three Grand Slams of the year 2021 with all the merit. He beat Daniil Medvedev at the Australian Open, Stefanos Tsitsipas at Roland Garros (despite the Greek having a two-set lead to zero), and finally Matteo Berrettini at Wimbledon.

In case of triumph in New York, Nole would lift his 21st Major trophy, thus bypassing and for the first time his great rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. According to the draw, the Serbian champion could face Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals.

In a long conversation with the portal “Tennis365”, former British tennis player Annabel Croft (now a brilliant journalist) revealed that Djokovic is the most fascinating player to interview.

Croft talks about Novak Djokovic

“All three of them are amazing individuals, but when I interview Novak Djokovic I find him so interesting,” said Annabel Croft. “He’s so intellectual, his command of the English language is so impressive and (you can tell) he’s thirsty for information.

He goes the extra mile to find information about his heart, lungs, diet, sleep patterns…. he is the professional athlete par excellence. I can’t say enough about him and it saddens me that he doesn’t get all the support he deserves, ”Croft added.

Annabel Croft concluded by saying that she hopes Djokovic gets absolutely all the credit he deserves. “No one is going to give up their love for Federer and Nadal, but maybe when they hang up their rackets people will appreciate what he (Djokovic) has done in the sport,” she said.

World number 1 Novak Djokovic has a pretty tough course for this year’s US Open. Although he will face a qualifier in the very first round of the 2021 US Open, many very fit players of the new generation will be among his opponents, including Matteo Berrettini, Alexander Zverev, and Hubert Hurkacz, who are on his side of the board.

Djokovic can also meet Kei Nishikori or Gaël Monfils in the third round of the Grand Slam. After this round, Alex de Minaur or Aslan Karatsev will wait for him in the next round. Once in the quarter-finals, Nole will probably have to meet Matteo Berrettini or Hubert Hurkacz.

After this challenge, he will be able to face Alexander Zverev or Denis Shapovalov in the semi-finals before possibly meeting Daniil Medvedev or Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final.
