Nice image: green jersey Jakobsen and teammates all come together across the finish | Vuelta

On Saturday he crossed the finish line of the final climb together with his seven teammates from Deceuninck – Quick-Step, at more than 41 minutes from the French stage winner Clément Champoussin. The eight riders of the Belgian team closed the day’s results, but no one cared. The euphoria was great with Jakobsen, who won three stages in this Vuelta.

“This is great,” said the sprinter, who got off his bike after the finish and held it triumphantly over his head. “I am so happy that I crossed the finish line with all the boys. Without them I would not have won those sprints and therefore I would not have ridden in the green. They always rode by my side. I love my teammates and I love being part of Deceuninck – Quick-Step. I am very proud. The last few days have been very hard, the legs are empty. I am happy with what I have achieved, I could not have wished for better.”

Jakobsen proved with his sprint victories in Spain that he is completely back after his bad crash in Poland last year. With 250 points, he can no longer be traced in the points classification by anyone. The Vuelta ends on Sunday with a time trial over 33.8 kilometers to Santiago de Compostela. If nothing crazy happens, Jakobsen will be honored there in green.
