MIAMI – Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was placed on the Miami Dolphins injured list on Saturday, causing him to miss at least three games.

Tagovailoa, who suffered a broken rib, had already been sidelined for Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Jacoby Brissett will be used as a starting quarterback by the Dolphins and Reid Sinnett has been promoted to act as a backup.

Tagovailoa will also miss the duels against the Indianapolis Colts and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He could return to the game on October 17, in London, against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The former first-round pick was injured after just eight games in the game against the Buffalo Bills last weekend. Brissett replaced him for the remainder of the game.

The Dolphins initially believed Tagovailoa was struggling with sore ribs. A more in-depth assessment, however, revealed the fractures. Brissett learned on Wednesday that he would be the starting quarterback in Las Vegas.

Dolphins head coach Brian Flores has said on several occasions this week that Tagovailoa’s health is improving, although he noted on Friday that the team had been having conversations and “gathering support. ‘information’ on the decisions to be made with the training.

On Saturday, the situation cleared up and the personnel movement was carried out.

Tagovailoa’s injury history is well detailed and he was a cause for concern when teams assessed him ahead of the 2020 draft. He had suffered a serious hip injury during his college career, in more than having undergone several surgeries, including one on both ankles.
