Basketball, national team: Former Bundesliga coach Gordon Herbert will be the new national basketball coach. Herbert was most recently assistant coach of the Canadian national team, last season he worked as a club coach for the Russian club Avtodor from Saratov. In his long career he trained in Germany s.Oliver Würzburg, Alba Berlin and several times the Skyliners from Frankfurt. He had suspended his coaching contract with Hessen from March 2019 to look after his home country at the World Cup in China, among other things.

He is supposed to lead the German team around leader Dennis Schröder to the home European championships next year with the preliminary round in Cologne and the final round in Berlin. In addition, qualification for the 2023 World Cup in Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines and, associated with that, for the 2024 Olympics in Paris is pending for the DBB selection.
