NBA – ESPN: Lakers part with Gasol – return to Spain

Cologne (SID) – NBA record champions Los Angeles Lakers apparently parted ways with Spanish star player Marc Gasol after just one year. According to ESPN information, the Californians are giving the 36-year-olds to the Memphis Grizzlies as part of an exchange deal, but Gasol should not appear again in the North American professional basketball league for his former club and return to his home country.

Gasol, the 2019 NBA champion with the Toronto Raptors, had left for LA prior to last season. In Memphis, the center had spent its first eleven NBA years. The Lakers allegedly surrender Gasol, a second round pick in the 2024 draft and an unknown amount of money, in return they receive the rights to the Chinese Wang Zhelin (27) from the Grizzlies. LA recently won two centers in Dwight Howard and DeAndre Jordan.

World and European champion Gasol last resigned from the national team together with his older Buder Pau (41) after the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Pau Gasol, twice champion with the Lakers, joined his hometown club FC Barcelona in February.
