After the 4-0 win against Iceland, the German national soccer team started their flight back to Frankfurt on Thursday night. But in Edinburgh the trip had to be interrupted.
AWhen everyone had showered and changed, we went back to the team hotel for a moment. There, after the 4-0 (2-0) win against Iceland, a small meal was waiting for the players of the German national team on Wednesday evening before they and the supervisors went to Reykjavik airport. On Thursday night, the entourage of the German Football Association (DFB) flew in a charter jet towards Frankfurt.
The arrival there was delayed. Because the booked plane had to make a stopover on the flight to Germany – in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, the trip was over after just under two and a half hours by flight. Shortly after 6:00 am German time, the DFB tweeted: “#infotweet Safety first. Safe stopover as a precaution in Edinburgh. Individual onward and return journeys are planned from there ”. Tweet number two followed a little later: “We’re fine. Safety check on the machine is in progress ”.
Three games, three wins
There was no further information on the reason for the unplanned stopover.
However, only part of the team was on board the charter plane, which was supposed to land in Frankfurt am Main at 5.30 a.m. When their colleagues were still stuck in Edinburgh, Bayern professionals Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich and Serge Gnabry just checked in in Reykjavik for their flight home. The departure was also organized differently for the five British legionaries around Timo Werner and Ilkay Gündogan.
Apparently the code 7700 was sent from the machine. Technical defects, lack of fuel or medical emergencies are possible in this regard. An aircraft that sends 7700 therefore receives immediate support.
Shortly before leaving Iceland, Hansi Flick, who started his time as national coach with nine points from three games, was very satisfied. “I also told the players that you can go to your clubs with a broad chest and try to perform there as well,” said Flick after his successful opening week: “I wished them good luck and success – and of course that they were healthy stay. It is a good finish to go home with nine points in the bag, ”was Flick’s conclusion. “If you take the three games, we can be very happy with the way things have developed.”
