Lobbes: the Scavin has barely been renovated when the electricity is (already) going wild!

Renovated 5 years ago, the Scavin sports center in Lobbes must already be the subject of new work. It is the electricity that is lacking at a time when the days are getting shorter. Imagine, playing basketball, futsal or badminton in the evening at 7 p.m. without light seems complicated to develop fully and above all clearly.
As the Lobbains know the Scavin well, it housed the pool for a long time, but since the roof collapsed, only the two gyms remain. Still, they were renovated under the legislature of the former mayor, Steven Royez. We were supposed to inaugurate it but here we are, we never found a moment to do it.
A few months after the completion of the work, the first “cracks” are already appearing and finally, all of the electricity must be redone. THEThe “blocks” of electricity that run all the lamps burn out. “The fire alarm went off several times because of burning blocks”, explains Lucien Bauduin, the mayor of Lobbes. The equipment is obviously not up to standard, which becomes complicated for sports clubs. “The first affected are obviously the sports clubs because the federations have requirements so that a competition can take place and if the referees decide that all the conditions are not met for a match to take place correctly, it is a forfeit and / or fines. For the moment, we are trying to find temporary solutions but in the long term, we will have to review all the electricity. “ This new renovation has obviously a cost: 25,000 euros, while the Scavin was renovated for an amount of around 1.5 million euros thanks to subsidies. “It’s still a nice surprise that falls on our hands”, deplores Lucien Bauduin.
Basketball, badminton and fustal are the sports which are the first to be affected by this new problem. Because since then, the company, which had carried out the work at the time, has gone bankrupt. Which further complicates the situation.
On the side of the former mayor, Steven Royez, we believe we have done things according to the rules of the art. “When we did the work, sodium lamps were installed, but in the meantime, the standards imposed by the sports federations have changed. We anticipated this change by performing tests with LED lamps. We even bought scaffolding for the workers. But since November, with the change of majority, there has been no follow-up and, somewhere, what is happening now, it is the result of poor management ”, explains Steven Royez.
Who is ultimately to blame?
The main concern at the moment is to find solutions for sports clubs to avoid the same scenario as what Lobbes football club experienced in order to avoid a general package at all costs.
