Lens winner of a derby disturbed against Lille in Ligue 1

The match: 1-0

More than fifteen years after their last success against Lille (4-2, April 29, 2006), Les Lensois won at the Bollaert stadium in the 113th North derby, thanks to a goal from Przemyslaw Frankowski (74th), erasing the painful memories from last season (0-4 and 0-3). Still undefeated, Franck Haise’s team climbed to second place in the L1 standings, while Lille suffered their third setback in six days and remained nailed in the second half of the table.

On the ground, the Lensois were better off in this derby, with a high pressing which stifled the Lille, offering themselves possibilities when they found verticality and Kakuta of freedom, in the absence of big opportunities. Fofana (4th) and Kakuta (9th) tried their luck, and a hand from Fonte on a corner could have been sanctioned with a penalty (4th), like that of Botman on a clearance (34th).

Lille had to play long to get out of the Lensois pressing, and found some solutions in depth or mainly on Ikoné’s side to be a little more threatening with Yilmaz, slowed down by Danso (13th) in the area or countered by Gradit (19th), which also prevented David from opening the scoring on a cross from Yilmaz (29th). What tempers the ardor of the Lensois, who had more difficulty approaching the Lille area until this beautiful strike from Sotoca well repulsed by Grbic, the Lille goalkeeper (45th + 1).

The second half could have shifted towards Lille, which found more solutions between the lines and in the axis. But Ikoné was preceded by a decisive return from Medina (56th), it was really not the day of Yilmaz, who missed his recovery of the head on a cross from André in an ideal position (63rd). Above all, there was this major intervention by Leca in the 67th minute of play. The Lensois goalkeeper repelled a shot from Ikoné and threw himself at Yilmaz’s feet and then Ikoné again to extinguish the fire.

Seven minutes later, Lille was led. Not attacked in the middle, Doucouré found Kakuta 35 meters from the goal and the oriented control of the Lensois leader created an imbalance. He launched Frankowski on the left, who erased Fonte to deceive Grbic with a cross strike from the right (74th). Behind, there was a second Lensois goal canceled at Saïd for an offside position of Kakuta (79th) and Lille pushed in vain in a hot end of the derby, with twenty faults whistled (only eight Lille side, four yellow cards) .

The player: Frankowski, scorer in his first derby

Przemyslaw Frankowski will remember his first Northern Derby. The Polish right-back, who played left piston, freed Bollaert by playing on Fonte and deceiving Grbic with a curled strike from the right. A real happiness for the one who signed for five years this summer from the Chicago Fire, who has already been involved on four goals this season in L1. He is also the eighth different Lensois goalscorer this season.
