Talks between Laporta and Koeman last summer about the Dutchman’s future on the bench have come to light. The coach’s agent and the coach himself have revealed that the president asked them for a few days to find a new coach. And in case of not finding the right profile, he would remain on the bench.

“Laporta said he needed two or three weeks to find a new candidate. And that, if he couldn’t find it, then Ronald could continue on the bench, ”explained Rob Jansen in the documentary Força Koeman, which can be seen in the Netherlands.

“It was a crazy decision to do without Koeman, based on nothing. Based only on your feelings. Crazy. I did not speak to Laporta again. But thankfully, the people around him helped Koeman stay. Then, the president came out before the media saying that they would continue together, that they are friends … this is the hypocrisy of high-level sport ». Rob Jansen refers to Mateu Alemany and Ramon Planes, who are the ones who made Laporta see reason for Koeman to continue.

The administrator has also given his version of events. “We had always gotten along well. And then the president tells me: ‘I still have doubts. We need more time and we will look for other options for the position of coach. We can’t clarify anything else, ‘says Koeman.

«The president is the president and he is here to make decisions. I told him to tell me that I am not good enough to coach the team so that we could end that story. I said, ‘Fix it if you don’t want me. Do it. But don’t leave me with this uncertainty telling me that you will go out and look for other options, ” Koeman recalls.
