Tallinn’s “Kalev” / “Cramo”, represented by Latvian basketball players Ojārs Siliņš and Mārčs Vītols and led by Roberts Štelmahers with one of his assistants, Axel Vairoga, won the first round of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Champions League qualification on Monday. “Kalev” / ”Cramo” in Tallinn beat the Portuguese club “Sporting” in Lisbon with the result 86:69 (20:18, 22: 9, 23:14, 21:28).
Siliņš played for 17 minutes and nine seconds, sending one of the three long shots in the basket, but not hitting his only two-point shot. He also scored six rebounds, returned five assists and scored 11 efficiency points. Vītola was not in the Estonian team’s application for this game.
Kamari Murphy scored 15 points and eight rebounds for the Tallinners, but Travante Williams scored 26 points for the opponents and seven balls under the baskets.
On Wednesday, in the semi-finals of the qualifying group C, Tallinners will meet with the Montenegrin club Bar “Mornar”. The Lithuanian team Utena “Juventus” and the German team Bamberg “Brose” will compete in the second semi-final. On Tuesday, the “Parma” D qualification group from Perm, represented by Marek Meyer, will meet with Elat “Hapoel” in the first round.
Latvian champion “VEF Rīga” will play in the main tournament.
In May, the Spanish club “San Pablo” of Burgos triumphed in the finals tournament held in Nizhny Novgorod in May, defending the title won last year. In 2020/2021, the fifth season of the tournament was played. In the first three years, the basketball players of Tenerife’s Lenovo, Athens AEK and Bologna’s Segafredo Virtus were crowned champions.
