After winning 8 medals at the Tokyo Olympics, judo is the star sport of the season. The Kodomo mascot goes from club to club to invite the little ones to climb onto the tatami mats. The mascot was in Amiens on Wednesday September 15 at the Coliseum.

The mascot Kodomo was all the rage this summer with its beach tour for invite young people to come to judo. The campaign of the French Judo Federation do some promotion operations to introduce people to their sport. Indeed, since the start of the epidemic, judo has lost 30% of its licensees in France, and the Sum Committee has not escaped it. For this new school year, Kodomo and all the licensed judokas are therefore mobilized to participate in several events such as Agora to encourage the youngest to come and put on a judogi.

But why “Kodomo”?

The mascot, from japan, therefore bears a name coming from its origin. Kodomo in Japanese means “child”. The big mascot during its passage in each club, distributes a playbook which allows children and parents alike to discover the moral code of judo as well as learning important words in a fun form.

The Sum Committee expresses itself on the event “The purpose of this meeting is to to discover the values of judo to the youngest. The goal is to make them want to register for the long term, and to invite their friends. The message we wanted to convey with respect to the moral code is precisely friendship. During the covid, some clubs offered physical preparation sessions, games or training so for regulars, judo was still present last year. The Olympic Games have made young people want to come on the tatami mats and we hope that the coming of Kodomo will bring them through the doors of the dojo. “

A coming which was eagerly awaited by the Amiens club, especially by the children, and which was greatly appreciated. Kodomo’s Tour de France continues and the federation hopes to generate new judo memberships.
