Jon Rahm and Sergio García greet each other at the conclusion of the BMW Championship.

Jon Rahm has won for the first time in his career the first prize for PGA of America Player of the Year, awarded by the PGA of America and which recognizes excellence in the PGA TOUR. This very prestigious award is different from the PGA Tour Player of the Year, an award voted by the golfers themselves on the American circuit. In fact, Rahm has swept the annual PGA of America awards, as he has also received the Harry Vardon Trophy, presented since 1937 to the PGA Tour professional with the best hitting average.

In a single season after lockdown, which featured six Majors, Rahm accumulated a total of 75 points in the Player of the Year ranking, the best score of his career and five more than Bryson DeChambeau, Second classified. Just a year ago, Rahm finished second in the PGA of America Player of the Year, ten points behind. Justin thomas.

Rahm won a tournament in the 2020-21 season, but his victory was of great value, it was not in vain that he conquered the US Open (gives 30 points to the winner) last June at Torrey Pines in San Diego. He also added 10 points for the victory shared with Kevin Na at Tour Championship, since they tied in blows (266). Under the PGA of America rules, the player with the lowest score is rewarded to determine the PGA Player of the Year. Patrick Cantlay (60) was third and Collin Morikawa (54) finished fourth.

In addition, the 26-year-old Rahm scored 20 points by clinching the title on the PGA Tour money list, which counts all tournaments leading up to the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Regarding the Harry Vardon Trophy standings, Rahm finished with a hitting average of 69.3 after playing a total of 86 full rounds. Dustin Johnson was runner-up with 69.61, followed by Louis Oosthuizen (690.71), DeChambeau (69.72) and Cantlay (69.73).

The Vardon Trophy, named by the PGA of America in honor of legendary British golfer Harry Vardon, requires a minimum of 60 complete rounds in PGA Tour sanctioned or sanctioned tournaments. The score was calculated from the average score of the field in each week.

Since 1948, the PGA of America has honored the best players with the PGA Player of the Year Award. It is awarded to the best professional on the TOUR based on a point system that takes into account tournament wins, winnings list and stroke average. Points for the 2020-21 season began accumulating with the A Military Tribute at the Safeway Open on September 10, 2020 and concluded on Sunday, September 5 at the TOUR Championship.
