Ansu Fati takes over Lionel Messi’s jersey number. The club announced this with a video in which the wing attacker shows off his jersey. Before that, the Spaniard played with the number 22.
Ansu Fati broke through in the main squad of FC Barcelona two years ago. Like Leo Messi, he went through a large part of the youth series in FCB. He scored 13 goals in 43 appearances for the Catalan club. He is also the youngest ever goalscorer for Barça and the Spanish national team. Especially at the beginning of last season he was in good shape (five goals in ten games), but then disaster struck.
Fati only returned to the training field last week after a nine-month rehabilitation. He suffered a knee injury against Real Betis in November. It may take a few more weeks before he actually plays a match with his new jersey number. After the departure of Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann, Ronald Koeman could use a quality injection in the front.
