It’s official. Mélanie Clément, at 29 years old will evolve again under the colors of Marne, with a view to Paris 2024. After a period of reflection, the Baralbine has decided, with a new mode of operation.

Mélanie Clément, 29, at the Marnaval / Saint-Dizier club since 2011, has decided to continue the adventure with her Haut-Marne structure for ten years. And this with a view to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. “I took the time to reflect this summer. The path has been positive at Marnaval, with progress since I devote myself fully to judo. I want to go higher. There is therefore a new project at the sporting level. I decided to stay in a provincial club while changing my training habits, ”explains the Baralbine. “I want to follow my dreams and I feel good at Marnaval. Going to a big Parisian club for example, with a time to adapt, is not the solution that I chose. “

Precisely, Mélanie Clément continues the combat sessions at INSEP. “And I decided to take people to make me work in Reims, a physical trainer, Clément Legoux, for judo, a mental trainer. Of course, I no longer benefit from the facilities at INSEP, but I assume it. Before 2016, it was complicated because I wanted to finish my studies. Since I am detached, it is easier. At 29, it’s a new challenge. I no longer need to be “driven”. I know what I need. I will take care of myself outside of a training group. I need quality while having quantity. And I keep three sessions in Paris, focused on combat. Francis Clerget will manage the technical aspect, in depth, with detail and precision. Lucie Décosse wishes to continue with me, but the Federation has not yet communicated and changes will occur. If she stays, we’ll continue to work together. “

” No regrets “

After five years of psychologically difficult Olympics to manage, with the postponement of one year of the Olympics, Mélanie Clément, who was not selected by the Federation for Tokyo, for the benefit of Shirine Boukli, takes a new turn for his end of his career. “I have no regrets because I gave everything to go to Tokyo. I fought a year with a broken rib, without complaint. In any case, I haven’t missed anything in terms of investment and training. It’s a decision. I move on. Like all events in life, this will not change anything. It’s part of my journey, my story. I will bounce back. “

While she resumed the path of the tatami mats, at the beginning of September, the selections of the France team should fall quickly for the next international events. “I didn’t feel ready for the European Cup or the Grand Prix scheduled for this weekend. I’m finishing a big training block. There is the Paris 2020 tournament, postponed to mid-October, which can be a goal. There will also be Grand Slams, as in Azerbaijan, the French championships, individual and team, the weekend of November 11, in Perpignan. Some competitions are open to clubs, if I am not taken by the Federation, and the body decides. I am focused on Paris. We cannot rely too much on the “ranking list” today (it is 13th). My goal for now is to regain my level before the cut and above all, to have fun, ”concludes Mélanie Clément, who will do everything to be in Paris in three years. His last big challenge.

The reaction
Francis Clerget (coach of Mélanie Clément): “Mélanie Clément had a long period of hesitation. She wants to be at the Games, in Paris, in three years. For this, she wants to develop her judo. I will accompany him in his project. She leaves the INSEP system, where she will visit three times a week. She lived in Paris. She is married, wants a personal life, in Reims, and not to go back and forth. She will have a physical trainer, in Reims, Clément Legoux and me, on judo, plus a mental trainer. Lucie Décosse should make her work in technique, on Thursday morning, if there is no change in the staff, with no doubt a new manager for the girls. Nationally, competition will be fierce. There is a youngster who is European champion, in juniors, Shirine Boukli, who made the Games, and there will be a lot of young people launched internationally this season. Mélanie has the experience, she puts less pressure on herself than at one time. For me, the non-selection is not yet fully digested. You have to restart the machine. It will be a construction season, where Mélanie must take the time to prepare slowly. The club will manage financially this year. There are big deadlines, with two tournaments in Paris and the Worlds, in August. On the financial level, we can not compete with the City, the Agglomeration or the departmental council which have helped Mélanie a lot in recent seasons for Tokyo. Otherwise, nothing is done next. ”
